Denture Replacement/Anchored Dentures

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, dentures can often be a good solution. And with dental implant anchored dentures, that solution can be even better.

With dentures, you can regain your ability to chew and eat, as well as have a full set of teeth for a beautiful smile. Dentures also provide support behind your lips and cheeks, meaning that the appearance of sunken in areas around your mouth can be remedied. However, many people experience movement and slippage along the gums as a result of dentures that do not provide the best fit. Plus, dentures often require pastes and adhesives that can be messy and inconvenient. If you already have traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures, also known as anchored dentures, can offer a more comfortable and convenient alternative. Dr. Farber works with one of the most talented labs in the country, Jason J. Kim Dental Aesthetics, which is affiliated with the Oral Design International group. This lab is well-known for its exceptional work, and it was carefully selected by Dr. Farber as a way to make sure her patients receive the highest quality results with a natural appearance.

With anchored dentures, the possibility of your dentures shifting or moving out of place while eating or talking can be virtually eliminated. Whether you are new to dentures, or are considering upgrading from traditional dentures, our cosmetic dentist can help. Please feel free to contact us today if you have any questions, or if you are interested in scheduling a consultation with Dr. Farber.

Benefits of Anchored Dentures

With implant anchored dentures, you can enjoy many benefits, such as the freedom to eat foods that were previously advised against with traditional dentures. Some other benefits include:

  • No need for pastes or adhesives
  • Less gum irritation
  • Helps reduce bone loss and wear on gums
  • Can virtually eliminate shifting and slipping along the gums
  • Less maintenance required
  • Improved chewing
  • Additional support for dentures

How They Work

Dr. Farber will take a mold of your mouth to help create a customized prosthesis for you. The upper dentures generally do not need to be anchored, as they can usually suction to the hard palate of the upper jaw. For lower dentures, implants can be placed below the gumline to create support to hold the lower denture in place when talking or eating. The implants will ultimately become a permanent part of your mouth, allowing you to easily fasten the lower denture to them when in use.

Candidates for Implant-Supported Dentures

To determine candidacy for anchored dentures, Dr. Farber will conduct a thorough examination of your oral health and jawbone density. All candidates must have adequate bone density in their jaw to support dental implants. Eligible patients are generally seeking a stronger, more effective way to hold their dentures in place. Other good candidates for anchored dentures include people who have a faulty bridge that requires replacement or is affecting bone growth.
