What is the Difference Between Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®?
If you are considering Invisalign® as an orthodontic treatment for yourself or your child, you may have noticed that Invisalign Teen® is also available. So what’s the big difference between the two treatments?
Invisalign Teen® is intended for adolescent patients who are seeking to straighten or align their teeth, so the main differences in treatment are designed to cater to a teenager’s needs. For example, many teens may not be as diligent about wearing their clear aligners as regularly as they should. To track this, Invisalign Teen® has blue dots that fade over time to indicate how long the aligner has been worn. After approximately two weeks, the dots will fade, and the patient will know they are ready for their next aligner. Another key difference is that the Invisalign Teen® trays provide additional space to allow for adult teeth to grow in over time. Lastly, parents can be at ease when it comes to needing replacement aligner trays for their teenager – Invisalign Teen® provides up to six free replacement aligners in the event that your teen loses them.
Both Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen® offer these great benefits:
- Patients can have their teeth aligned discreetly
- The appliances are removable, allowing for more convenient brushing, flossing, eating, and drinking during treatment
- Desired results can often be achieved in less time than treatment with traditional metal braces
- Less office visits are typically needed, as compared to conventional orthodontic treatments
